Dine out in Reading this Christmas!
No Christmas shopping trip or visit to Reading's Christmas events is complete without a meal out... or coffee and cake at least. And there’s a whole range of eateries to choose from for a Christmas cracker of a treat! Reading caters for fine dining to cosy cafes and pubs and everything in between.
Fine dining fans can try Cerise or Forbury Restaurant in Forbury Square. You’ll also find the ever-reliable Carluccio’s there – their Christmas menu is always bellisimo. For brasserie-style food go to London Street Brasserie, a Reading institution, or Valpy Street. Head up London Street for Lebanese at The Bakery House or Hyderabadi cuisine at Clay’s. Sit by the Riverside at The Oracle at Côte, Browns, Comptoir Libanais, The Real Greek, Five Guys, and more.
Take a stroll down Friar Street which runs parallel to Broad Street and spot the numerous eateries. For sweet indulgence, Nibsy’s in Cross Street is fabulous for gluten-free cakes, and turns very festive this time of year, Picnic in Market Place have counters groaning with home-made cakes to devour after you’ve finished one of their innovative salads, CUP in Blagrave Street and St Mary’s Butts does great coffee. The Tasting House will serve you tapas and great wine as well as gourmet coffee from Anonymous Coffee. If you're in Broad Street Mall, Boswells caters for snacks and lunches.
The Après Ski bar at Station Hill will transport you to the Alps as you warm your toes and sup a frosty beer. Pubs often come into their own at this time of year with cosy fires and mulled wine. Try The Lyndhurst for gastro pub food, for real ale and pub grub The Three Guineas outside the station and The Bel & Dragon for riverside views. And don’t forget most places cater for office parties at Christmas with exciting menus and added fun.
For those looking to party, try Revolution in Station Road for a funky do and the similar-sounding Revolucion de Cuba for rum-soaked cantina fun. More Latino festive flair can be found at Las Iguanas in The Oracle - also there, try All Bar One who also offer a full vegan Christmas menu, Browns have Christmas cocktails as well as food and Bella Italia have great drink bundles to go with their festive menus.
Gay-friendly pub The Blagrave caters for parties, Veeno in Valpy Street have tasting boards followed by tiramisu for more informal parties, The Roseate Hotel offers glitz and glamour and surprisingly good deals on parties and Christmas lunches, and the Coconut Bar and Kitchen in St Mary's Butts does Asian-inspired parties. And don't forget Pavlov's Dog, always great value, and Smokin' Billy's who this year have a Karaoke Christmas party.
